Based on a Japanese format created and hosted by Hitoshi Matsumoto called Documental or in its full title Hitoshi Matsumoto Presents Documental for Amazon Prime Video.
Trivia
Following the show's inception in Japan in 2016, the second country to make a version was Mexico (2018), and the UK is the 28th. 23 of them were commissioned for Amazon Prime Video - the Russian and Iranian versions appeared on other streaming services, and only the Albanian, Turkish and Tunisian versions were made for broadcast TV. Other versions include Australia's hosted by Rebel Wilson, a South African edition fronted by Trevor Noah, the Canadian English version with Jay Baruchel as host, and an Irish one fronted by Graham Norton.
