Central for Galaxy/Sky One, 1 October 1990 to 10 January 1992 (70 episodes in 1 series)
(Transferred to Sky One for last 25 episodes - see Trivia below)
Synopsis
An earlier version of Wipeout, with a few notable differences:
It appears only one grid was played in the first round (three were played under Paul Daniels' watch; two under Bob Monkhouse's).
Every correct answer in the first round was worth ten points (no money on offer here). When a correct answer was picked, a "10" replaced it on the grid; when a wrong answer was picked, it was replaced by the word "FALSE" (and the contestant was said to have been "wiped out", the only nod to the format's more familiar title).
The auction round was called One to One.
The prize for completing the end game was satellite equipment (no holidays on offer here, either). Prior to BSB's merger with Sky, this included a Squarial (remember those?).
There were no paperweights, umbrellas, or consolation prizes of any kind for the two losing contestants.
Theme music
Simon Etchell
Trivia
The first 45 episodes aired from 1 October to 30 November 1990 and were repeated on Sky One from 7 October to 6 December 1991. The final 25 episodes premiered afterwards, between 9 December 1991 and 10 January 1992. However, as BSB had been bought by Sky in the interim, Craig had to do 70 "insert edits" so that he mentioned BSkyB instead...
