Peter Marshall
Biography
Smooth Derry-born broadcaster. After starting his announcing career at his native Ulster Television, he moved to the mainland, where he announced for Anglia, Southern, ATV, HTV West, and most famously at Thames Television. His career at the last of these saw him work alongside other announcing greats such as Philip Elsmore and future Wipeout announcer Tom Edwards, and led him to a career on the network as the host of Miss United Kingdom and Miss World (the lattermost for 12 consecutive years). Peter also presented on BBC Radio 2 and local London station Melody FM before retiring to work as a property developer.
Trivia
Before presenting the entire run of Sky's take on Sale of the Century, Marshall had announced the format's first ITV series in 1971; fellow Anglia announcer John Benson replaced him from the second series onwards.
A different (and noticeably ill) Peter Marshall could for a time be found on UK airwaves presenting imported infomercials made for an American audience, having previously presented many US game shows including their take on Celebrity Squares.
