Synopsis
Three ITV stars do fun things in a sunny holiday destination.
Groups of familiar faces - from Loose Women, I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, Coronation Street, and The Chase - are taken on holiday to exotic destinations like Rhodes and Malta. There, they each set a day for their fellow travellers to enjoy.
The competition element is minimal: after experiencing all the fun days, the group decide amongst themselves whose day was the best. There is no prize beyond honour, and enjoying fun times to be shown on telly in the depth of winter.
The Great Escapers was part-funded and sponsored by Jet2 Holidays, and we can reasonably expect that they will have helped to arrange some of the events and given ideas to the celebrities. In that respect, it's little different from the last century's Wish You Were Here, where ITV celebrities would go to sunny places and report on the attractions on offer.
