Joanne McNally and Richard Ayoade (team captains)
Ranga Bee Productions for TLC, 5 July 2026 to present
"The royal family should be paid more!"
"Yorkshire puddings are a waste of space!"
"Roses are not romantic!"
Comedians try to convince a studio audience to support their unorthodox and challenging opinions, through their persuasion, wit, and whimsey. "We're not out to upset anyone, but it's fun watching comedians scrabble around to justify what they're saying," said a press release attributed to host Ed Gamble.
TV Times reported how the show works:
"All members of the audience have a voting paddle. First, they vote on whatever the opinion is and we see that result on a swingometer. Then the comedian defends their case, and the audience votes once again. So, initially 96% of the audience might vote an opinion as unacceptable, but once the comedian argues it, that number might drop."
Host is Ed Gamble from The Traitors Uncloaked. Team captains are Joanne McNally from Republic of Telly and Richard Ayoade from The Crystal Maze; each captain is joined by a co-conspirator each week.
TV Times commented on the differences between the captains:
"Joanne is good at geeing everyone up and bringing her team together, while Richard is very precise. There isn’t a wasted word with Richard; he’ll think for a moment and then deliver the perfect line."
This programme has not yet aired. A full review will appear here after broadcast.
Made by Romesh Ranganathan's production company; no surprise that the boss was on the panel for the first episode.
At first glance, looks a bit like "Defend the Indefensible", the final round from radio's Fighting Talk.
Discovery Warner Brothers, which owned TLC, really wanted to promote this programme - Unacceptable had a 15-minute preview on 28 June, while the first episode was simulcast on other Discovery channels Really, DMax, and Quest.
